The next few weeks are undeniably going to be rough (and I’m very worried about a close friend of mine with Crohn’s who may have the virus) b ut there’s solid evidence that the lockdowns are working.

How we proceed after, if , things stabilize is going to be a heated discussion, but at least there’s hope that we can reach that  point.

The real danger is letting our guard down too soon. The projections for Austin is that we are still 3 weeks away from the peak of infections.

Pretty crazy how much personal data we’re willing to just throw out there.

I would never have allowed an app to access the microphone or camera on my computer before this (despite knowing they probably were anyways). I now have five or six apps all doing that in order to keep a roof over my kids’ heads.

And apparently people have been sending medical data to a tech company for years.

This bug is fucking up a whole lot lot  than our health. Mother nature is a much better chess player than us.

That is a really interesting article. Promising, but also only a result of measures that just a few weeks ago, many would have thought impossible. I distinctly remember saying something like “boy, closing down all the public schools would be crazy ... the implications are massive and that seems like it would be a last resort.” Boy, do I feel stupid now.

I was texting with a friend who’s a life sciences executive; we both saw this coming months ago, yet neither of us could really fathom what it meant or really imagine the world would lock itself down.

Frankly, no one really can fathom yet what it ultimately means. No one knows how this ends.

I guess my point is, no reason to feel any more stupid than the rest of us. This is like 9/11 but much bigger : no one will forget it, no one has a clue how things will change, nothing will ever be the same.

It’s like 9/11, in slow motion, in every city, and trickling out to small towns like mine. There are now cases in the little town next to me where I work. It might be one, but it’s non-zero. For sure, this will be a generation-defining event for my kids; they’re just old enough to really remember it.
